PADI Rescue Diver Course

If you are an experienced diver already and want to gain more experience and get peace of mind that you can handle difficult situations whilst diving, the PADI Rescue Diver course is for you. This course is very challenging but most of all very rewarding, not only do you learn more about keeping yourself safe underwater but also looking after the welfare of other divers. This course will also test your ability to deal with stressful situations and learn to be able to solve problems.

To be able to attend a PADI Rescue Diver Course generally you would need to have completed PADI Advanced Course and Emergency First Responder Course or equivalent successfully and you also need to be in good general health and fitness. You also must have passed the Emergency First Responder Course with the last two years, as you do have to have current knowledge of first aid. Scuba Diving is strenuous to you physically even having a cold or an ear infection can be unsafe when diving.

Rescue Diver courses are usually completed within a three day period, During this time you will attend classroom teaching, theory work, confined and open water training sessions, open water dives and examinations. The theory work and teachings will be based on how to respond to diving emergencies and how to assist scuba divers in distress.

The course provides a wealth of information, new skills and techniques so several hours theory work is required in a class room for some time to get ready for the practical side of course. Overall, the course consists of lectures and workshops, pool work and usually two days by boat, in the water or on land. Location and how the program will run will vary depending on the company, this is just an example of what the course might entail.

Topics on this course include Panicked diver response, Missing diver procedures, Search techniques , In-water rescue breathing protocols and Diving first aid to name a few. These topics will lead to various useful skills as a diver, and you will gain confidence and knowledge of rescue-scene assessment and management which can save lives. As well as learning about how to help other people you will learn a lot about self rescue techniques and how to activate signalling devices.

During the course you will expand your knowledge from what you have learnt from the previous Emergency First Responder course, in first aid and emergency issues also learning about calming and pulling a diver out of difficulty, as well as transport of divers with suspected decompression sickness and how to remove unconscious divers from the water. You will also learn tips on how best to help local emergency services, and what to do when waiting for help.
