Wetsuits: Keeping your Body Warm when Enjoying your Favorite Water Sport

by Paul Garnett

If you are an avid surfing fan or a triathlon athlete testing your skills in the water, you might have known how important it is to always be protected during cold temperatures.

If you intend to stay longer in the water, like in scuba diving or snorkeling, of course, you would not enjoy the activity if you have no protective garment with you. At times, it would not even be possible .The introduction of wetsuits in water sports, indeed has given the water sports enthusiasts the benefit of being able to enjoy the sport or the activity at any season.

So how does your wetsuit make it possible to enjoy a good surfing or wakeboarding adventure even in cold and windy days? Below are some bits of information you might want to know about wetsuits.

Wetsuits are made of an artificial rubber called Neoprene. It is a waterproof and buoyant material that is also very flexible. This synthetic rubber has very tiny pockets of nitrogen gas in it that help in preserving the warmth of the body even when submerged in the water for longer periods.

The openings on the neck of your wetsuit, including the openings in the arms and legs allow a little amount of water into your suit. It is important that this thin layer of water will stay there and do not leak out because it functions as your insulator against the cold. This is how wetsuits work in keeping you warm while you are enjoying your favorite water sport.

It is also important to choose a wetsuit that perfectly fits for you. A perfectly fit wetsuit means something that would hug every part of your body and at the same time comfortable for your breathing and moving. A major factor on how effective your wetsuit works is its fit. A baggy wetsuit would definitely mean poor insulation.

Not just only for your wetsuits, it is equally important that you know how your safety equipment and sports gear are working for you. With enough knowledge, you will feel safe and secured and will make you enjoy your game more.
